Like every Alienware machine, the M15x doesn’t come cheap, but if you have the means you won’t be disappointed. With the Alienware M15x, you get what you pay for, namely a gaming system that is built like a tank and offers lots of raw horsepower and cutting-edge style. Sure, there are cheaper 15-inch gaming notebooks out there, but the M15x is in a different league altogether in terms of performance and edginess. Its great design is perfectly complemented by mind blowing performance and this all results to PRIDE of OWNERSHIP knowing you did not settle for anything less…



The M15x is one seriously fast laptop. The Core i7-720QM’s default clockspeed of just 1.6GHz might not sound that quick on paper, but Intel’s Turbo Boost technology saves the day. Depending on how many of its four processing cores are in use, it’s capable of ramping up the processor as far as 2.8GHz. It must be noted that the Core i7 is different from the Penryn Based Quad Core(Q9xxx-series). The older Penryn based Q9xxx are made from two dual-core chips merged together in a single CPU package. The issue with this is there is very little software that is actually able to take advantage of the design and is basically for bragging rights only. A Core i7 <click here> on the other hand is manufactured using a single-chip (monolithic) design and when partnered with the Intel P55 Express Chipset, offers real work advantage aside from gaining bragging rights.



Because of the completely new process the Core i7 brings with it a number of new technologies such as a three-level cache, integrating the memory controller and PCI Express interconnects, as well as getting rid of the Northbridge chip. Moreover with built in Hyper-Threading technology and Intel Turbo Boost Technology the Core i7 is able to deliver unprecedented performance in a notebook.

Graphics on this Alienware M15x is the the high-end graphic card of the 200M series, based on the G92b core – the NVidia GeForce GTX 260M. The chip is a 9800M GTX with slightly higher clock rates of 550 MHz (core), 950 MHz (memory) and 1350 MHz (shader) and is produced in 55nm. Compared with Desktop graphic cards, the performance is about at the level of the GeForce 9800 GT (600/1500/900). Older games run fluently with high resolutions and full details. For current DirectX 10 games like Crysis, World in Conflict, Bioshock or Age of Conan, the performance of this graphic card is sufficient with medium and high details. The memory equipment is up to 1024 MB GDDR3. An integral feature of the GTX260M is HybridPower which is a system to choose between the integrated and dedicated graphics core, if performance or battery runtime is needed. We will discuss more about this later.



The M15x’s specifications alone will be enough to leave many open mouthed and we can discuss the specs to every minute detail but then there will always a faster, newer and more powerful laptop tomorrow… that is just how it is with technology based products. Buying an Alienware is more about PRIDE OF OWNERSHIP and for this descriptive review we would rather share the Alienware experience.

Alienware Aesthetics -
Alienware has matched the M15x’s gaming credentials with imposing looks. This system comes in a semi-gloss Cosmic Black finish, which has a slight sheen and, refreshingly, isn't the usual magnet for fingerprints and dust particles.



One of the most desirable feature of an Alienware is the distinct Alienware badge. It used to be the only distinguishable mark of an Alienware laptop is the Alien head decal at the back of the laptop.<click here> After an extreme makeover the new Alienware m15x now offers a distinct look at the front edge as well. Rather than your standard squared of box like look, the new M15x, has an angled automotive-inspired grille complete with adjustable glowing lights through the Alienware fusion FX lighting. The addition of the Grill gives the laptop additional menacing looks and makes a very strong impression even before you fire up a single game on this high-end core i7 based beauty. It is certainly one of the best looking laptops available on the market and is incredibly well built with plenty of metal and hard matte-plastics used in its construction.

Alienware AlienFX effect -
The M15x offers extensive lighting system. Light glow provocatively starting with the alien heads on the display lid, the Alienware imprint above the hinges, touch screen bar, the backlit keyboard, the touchpad, and the loudspeaker grills on the front. With the Fusion FX lighting YOU are able to customize the lighting array. You can have different colors for the touch sensitive controls, the glowing Alienware logo on the bottom of the screen bezel, the keyboard backlighting, the Alienware head logo on the front of the case and for the lighted ring around the track pad.



You are not tied to only one color because with help of the intuitive and easy to use software Alien FX the colors can be changed to suit your needs. Everything between a wild color mix and a uni-colored appearance is possible. The colors of the mentioned areas can be set independently of each other and the choice of colors is very impressive. And, if they’re not your cup of tea, you can always turn them all off too

Alienware Fusion Power Manangement —
Personalizing the M15x to suit your personal taste is not limited to lighting effect("Alien FX"). With the Command Center, but you can also personalize the touchpad settings("Alien Touch"), you can even configure the security settings("Alien Sense") and even access your M15x’s power-management controls(“Fusion Power”) so you can decide when you need maximum performance or when to scale back for more everyday programs, ultimately increasing energy efficiency.



Fusion is essentially the power manager, the Area-51 m15x’s Stealth Mode throttles back the CPU and GPU, decreasing the notebook’s energy consumption and increasing battery life. Powering down the Area-51 m15x also reduces noise output. Higher energy efficiency and quieter running makes Stealth Mode especially beneficial when working unplugged and out in the field. To engage Stealth Mode, simply use the Stealth Mode odometer, conveniently located above the keyboard with the touch-sensitive controls.

In addition AW's Fusion Optimization power management tool allows you to change from "High Performance" to "Power Saver". This doesn't only change the time it takes your computer to auto-standby or power down the HDs, but it also actually reduces the maximum power your processor and certain parts of your chipset can draw. You can do this by simply right-clicking the battery icon on your taskbar or going in to the Alienware Command Center. The Alienware M15x has bleeding-edge technology, make it an incredibly well-rounded machine and a great purchase for those who require the absolute best in a personal laptop



Finally, the buyer will find several goodies in the package. Among other things, a black cap naturally with the Alienware logo on the front. A high-quality and stable mouse pad with good gliding traits is also included. Of course, the typical alien head shouldn't be omitted here, either. The thick and well-written manual that is held together by a leather jacket proves to be especially high-end. Alienware can distinguish themselves positively from the competitors.



We have mentioned many times that a notebook is something personal because you bring it with you as you go, unlike a desktop that is home bound. For a notebook to be truly great, it is more than the performance of one major component such as the CPU or GPU. To be a great notebook it must also look incredible. Based on what we see the Alienware M15x probably doesn't have competitors in design, and represents one of the most unique and daring notebooks on the market. A futuristic design and illumination strike you right away, no matter where you look.
