We had to bring it in again for our customers. While the TurionX2 ULTRA processor may not have delivered a significant boost in performance; we experienced a drastic improvement in the graphic capability through the ATI HD3200. The graphic performance actually almost matches the level of a discrete nVidia 8400M[G]. For the first time ever consumers have a entry level IGP that offers flawless 1080p video playback and can even play many 3D video games at reasonable frame rates! A Tablet PC is unique because it allows the user to draw and sketch on the screen (just like on paper), then save the work as a digital file for future editing or to print right away. If you are looking for an ultra-portable laptop, this is one excellent choice. It has a 12inch widescreen laptop with a built-in DvD player / writer drive. It also offers many other features a mobile user will want like a webcam, biometric security and a remote controller. After extensive tests run we can confidently state that If you want an Ultra-Portable laptop with decent Graphic Processing Power and Tablet features as a bonus, the TX2500 is your primary if not the only candidate! The HP Pavilion TX2500 is the update to theTX2000 Tablet PC. The TX2500 inherits the design elements of its predecessor including the high-gloss HP Imprint Finish called "Echo" Imprint Finish. Like its predecessor the lid is glossy black, and it has the Echo circular pattern. Inside the laptop you will find a silver keyboard and the unique dimpled style touchpad that responds very well with a scroll area for long documents or web pages. The whole package offers a very sleek design and the Imprint Finish is remarkably durable and resistant to scratches. ![]() The TX2500 also continuous to feature both touchscreen and active digitizer, offering the best of both and making it areal tablet. The active stylus makes writing notes or sketching a masterpiece a lot easier. The pen input is so accurate and sensitive that it actually has 256 levels of pressure-sensitivity. Most people that use a Tablet PC for the first time these days are surprised at just how responsive the pen and screen is for writing. The Pen even has an eraser on the end, which is especially useful when taking notes because you can flip the pen over and erase your mistakes. HP even incorporated in the design the feature that when the stylus point is within an inch of the screen, the touch screen portion is disabled. This way your hand doesn't interfere when writing as some users rest their palm on the screen. WoW! The major upgrade on the TX2500 is in the updated processor and graphics which form the new AMD Puma Platform. On the CPU front, Puma-based notebooks will be based on the latest generation of mobile processors from AMD including this TurionX2 ULTRA ZM-82(2.2GHz) processor. The Ultra features top enhancements like: 1) AMD Independent Dynamic Core Technology, a power management that can turn whole segments of the chip off on a millisecond-by-millisecond basis to save power. 2) Hypertransport 3 bus for extremely fast (20.8GB/s) data transfer between CPU and chipset. 3)A mobile optimized memory controller. The new processor is supported by the new mobile AMD M780G Chipset. All these technology enhancements are intended to optimized long battery life - at least that is what AMD hopes to achieve. ![]() The ULTRA Processor is only one component of the new "PUMA Platform". The heart of Puma really is the ability to offer a "total solution" in terms of both the raw processor power and the graphics/video performance. The ATI Radeon™ HD 3000 Series graphics processors feature break-through efficiency from cutting-edge 55nm manufacturing process technology and according to AMD is the first mobile IGP that supports DirectX10 graphics. The Radeon HD 3200 is a remarkable IGP because it is the first integrated graphics solution that is genuinely capable of playing 1080p video without skipping frames or playing many 3D video games with reasonable frame rates. According to LaptopMag.com, AMD’s promise of “three times the 3D graphics performance of comparable competitor graphics” isn’t too far off. Actually the TX2500z notched an impressive 3,719 3DMark03 score;2,578 points higher than the TX2000’s score of 1,141.[/b] ![]() What does all these technical jargon mean to the everyday user like us? We turn to the Windows Experience Index. The Windows System Assessment Tool (WinSAT) is a module of Microsoft Windows Vista which measures various performance characteristics and capabilities of the hardware it is running on and reports them as a Windows Experience Index (WEI) score, a number between 1.0 and 5.9. The WEI includes five subscores: processor, memory, 2D graphics, 3D graphics, and disk; the basescore is equal to the lowest of the subscores. <click here> ![]() For comparison we used the WEI score of the previous model HP TX2000 with a Turion64 TL-68(2.4Ghz) processor and nVidia 6150 GPU as the base score. In comparison with this HP TX2500 with TurionX2-Ultra ZM82(2.4Ghz) and ATI HD3200 GPU, where we see the biggest change is in graphics performance. All the previous TX-series Tablet PCs were powered by integrated NVIDIA graphics in the past, but the TX2500 features Radeon HD 3200 graphics (also integrated but manufactured by AMD). The latest generation integrated graphics from AMD's ATI team offer a level of video and gaming performance we just haven't seen on tablets with integrated graphics in the past. Where the improved graphics performance of the HD3200 will help is for students in disciplines such as engineering that need to render 3D CAD models. The ATI HD3200 is on par with about an Nvidia 8400 graphics card in terms of performance, so light gaming is even quite possible. ![]() HP has always positioned the TX series as an entertainment focused notebook and it is no surprise the TX2500 is packed full of media-rich features not found on many other tablets. The 12.1-inch widescreen display is surrounded by a half inch-thick bezel, which houses a fingerprint reader, a 1.3-megapixel webcam, and a series of blue LED-lit buttons for launching Quickplay, Windows Vista Mobility Center, and the DVD player. The right side of the display holds media playback controls. The TX2500 also features a DVD burner with LightScribe labeling Technology, and a small, credit-card-size remote controller that can be stored on the Express Card Slot. The two Altec Lansing speakers are located on the screen bezel as well. The positioning is great because they aim forward toward you and when in Tablet PC mode you still get good audio. If you compare the speakers to your standard notebook, they produce comparatively loud, clear sound. There are also two headphone ports on the front side are nicely located, one of which is SPDIF for high quality digital audio output to that nice set of speakers you have. ![]() There was nothing wrong with the HP TX2000 model. HP merely built on the platform of the TX2000 and incorporated AMD's latest PUMA platform and released the TX2500. It would be difficult to go wrong building from an excellent model described by Hardware geeks on record - "HP has created the perfect Tablet PC". The result based on our personal evaluation is a Tablet that offers better graphic capabilities. That certainly is not bad specially because the new model is not any more expensive than the previous. Overall, like the TX2000, the TX2500 is everything you’d want and more. It isn't the lightest tablet, but it is certainly offers the most number of features for a Tablet PC. You will not be disappointed with the feature set and the entertainment features are an added bonus for this tablet. The good news is now it can even handle mild gaming!
