Our Take: “ Awesome!. This latest variant of the Studio XPS 1340 that we are offering for sale features Two(2) new enhancement. First, the nvidia 9500M[Hybrid] has been upgraded to the latest 40Nmn nVidia G_210M[Hybrid]. Second, this variant offers the much anticipated Microsoft WINDOWS7!



The XPS series is a high-end line of multimedia computers offered by Dell, and the Premium positioning becomes immediately evident in the "breathtaking" Glossy Piano Black finish with leather accent on the lid. The lid is covered by three(3) different components - On the top part there is a high-gloss piano black plastic part. Below that a silver aluminum die cast finish, which optically separates the black high-gloss finish from the third component a black leather finish. The leather element does not only look good, it also allows you to securely grasp the notebook when carried. As fusion fo design and functionality, the right display hinge glows in white LED when the laptop is turned on.



The inside is in Piano black finish with an anodized aluminum strip that stretches the boarders of the laptop. You will also be captivated by the backlit keyboard and mouse selector buttons, which can be set to two different brightness levels as well as being turned off completely [i]A backlit keyboard makes using this laptop in dimly lit rooms possible. How much attention to detail did Dell give this Studio XPS model? Put it this way, the ventilation ports at the bottom of the notebook is cut with miniature "X"’s pulled from the XPS logo. There is no denying Dell reinforces the idea of the XPS as a a classy, high-end, top of the Line machine.



XPS stands for "Xtreme Performance System" and carries with it a legacy of cutting-edge design and technology. It is not a surprise that this XPS m1340 is offered with the latest Intel Core2 Duo 45-nanometer processor P8700(2.53Ghz) and the Mobile Intel 45 Express chipset. The latest Intel Core2 Processors are known with their "P" designation, and importantly offer a faster 1,066-MHz front-side bus(FSB) versus the 800Mhz of the previous Core2 Duo processors. Also significant is that "P" designated processors are rated at 25 Watts TDP versus the 35W TDP for the "T" series. Lower TDP means longer battery life and less heat generation. A new chipset in the Intel 45 Express is included to allow support for the faster 1,066-MHz FSB of the processor. All data passes across the FSB, and technically speeding it up is like adding extra lanes to an interstate highway. The XPS13 is one of the first laptop model we have had to offer the super fast DDR3 Memory with a rated FSB of 1066Mhz. It has been a practice at CoolTOYZ to measure the performance of any new system using the Windows Experience Index and in this system we find RAM, GPU and Hard drive perfectly matched while the processor is the speed demon with a rating of 6.1Points.

The new model XPS M1340 features a 13.3" widesreen display which is the biggest display format for an ultra-portable. The advantage of the 13.3inch is it offers a small dimension, offering a lightweight platform while providing a display large enough for long hours of use. The display panel is covered by a full-surfaced reflective and flat display, providing an effect that the display panel occupies the entirely top panel edge-to-edge. The borderless display just adds so much class and elegance to this sophisticated model that it is worth mentioning before the technical details.



What’s particularly special about the Studio XPS 13 is that is it L.E.D. backlit. An L.E.D[Light Emitting Diode] display is a technology up from a normal LCD found in most laptops. In theory LEDs use less power (extending battery life), offer 30% percent greater brightness, and provide greater uniformity of the image throughout the screen.

A major innovation in this 3rd-variant of the XPS M1340 we are offering is the inclusion of the Nvidia GeForce G_210M graphic processing unit, a Hybrid SLI enabled GPU[/b], featuring HybridPower and GeForce Boost modes. Without getting too technical, a hybrid system essentially includes both low-power integrated graphics and high-performance discrete graphics. The Studio XPS runs on the integrated graphics chip when you are doing less-demanding chores (to conserve battery power), automatically switches to the discrete GPU when video-processing demands increase (HybridPower), and puts both GPUs into service when you need the most 3D horsepower (GeForce Boost), giving you the equivalent of a GeForce 9500M GPU.



Technically, the Nvidia GeForce G210M or G_210M is a DirectX 10.1 graphics adapter for notebooks based on the GT218 core <click here>. As its predecessor(the nVidia 110M), it features 16 shaders but the clock rates have been greatly increased. Through the 40nm process, nVidia has improved the micro-architecture to further enhance power saving and performance increases. Therefore, the performance per shader unit should be slightly improved compared to the previous generation.

Compared to its predecessor nVidia 110m, which is still made using the 55nm process, the 210 M should be noticeably faster because of the improved shaders and the higher clockspeeds (memory, core, and shaders). Nvidia states an average improvement of 100% in their press kit that calculates from the following results.



Despite its ultra-portable dimension the XPS M1340 offers a good selection of connectivity ports. It comes with both analogue VGA Port and HDMI output, microphone and twin headphone sockets (for sharing with a friend), and two USB ports, one of which doubles as an increasingly popular eSATA port. For fast digital video, audio and data transfer from your digicam and webcam the model incorporates an 8-in-1 media card reader and legacy IEEE 1394 (FireWire) interface. The Studio XPS 13 also has 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Gigabit Ethernet and Bluetooth. As an added option available from CoolTOYZ, you have the option to install your own HSDPA Modem with SIM card slot beneath the battery, enabling you to access the Internet anywhere there is a 3G cellular coverage. The package is rounded off with a 2-Megapixel Web camera which serves as the access point for the Face Recognition Software, a hassle-free way to logon to your laptop. No keeping track of hard-to-remember passwords. Face Recognition software allows you to login to the system simply by having your face properly recognized by the integrated webcam during Windows startup.



The Studio XPS 13 is a blend of sophisticated design, power, and portability. The XPS is the Lexus Model of Dell and this model offered for sale with the nVidia G_210M SLI graphics is like the top of the line Hybrid Lexus Model. Granted, not many consumers can afford to spend nearly P80,000.00 on a laptop, but even so Dell's Studio XPS M1340 is a real temptation just like the Lexus Hybrid. There’s no question this is a great notebook choice, especially if you need both power and portability. This thin-and-light notebook offers very good performance, hybrid graphics, and a luxurious design; worthy of continuing the XPS logo into the future.
