Inside this laptop is the latest AMD Platform code named PUMA, with the powerful AMD TurionX2 Mobile processor partnered with the capable ATI HD3200 graphic chip, plus you get the latest connectivity ports, and a gamut of other features and even a remote controller. On the outside all these worthy features are encased in the completely overhauled Pavilion laptop line. On the exterior you will find a new and improved design, including a LED back-lit HP logo that shines bright white on the lid when the system is turned on (reminiscent of "Alienware" styling, and the apple Logo in a MAC) . The lighted logo is a nice contrast to the "Mesh" Imprint Finish, which like the name implies looks like: a fine gray mesh pattern over a black glossy surface.



The design innovations extend to the inside with the palm rest area featuring the same "Mesh" Imprint Finish but in a metalized finish. Likewise, you’ll find that the attractive touch-sensitive media buttons seemingly vanish behind the "liquid metal" surface when the computer is turned off further enhancing the clean appearance. When turned on the media buttons glow a pleasing white with the mute and Wi-Fi buttons in orange when you touch the the volume or Wi-Fi button. The streamlined look is enhanced with a color-matched silver keyboard and touchpad decked out in chrome edging. The totality of the exterior and interior design makes other mainstream machines look old-fashioned with its futuristic-chic appearance.

AMD's latest notebook platform, Puma consists of two(2) critical ingredients - The new Turion X2 mobile processors (codenamed Griffen), and the AMD M780G (RS780M) mobile chipset. The AMD Griffen core mobile processor (65nm process technology) is complete with AMD CoolCore for fine and course power management on various part of the CPU dynamically, as well as a more power-optimized and updated HyperTransport 3.0 bus. Specs wise the TurionX2 RM-70 is a dual-core that runs at 2.0 GHz with 512 KB L2 cache per core(1mb combined). The RM series differs from the previous Turion 64 X2 CPUs by utilizing the so-called 'split power plane design', which allows independent voltage planes for processor and memory controller for greater control over performance based on system demands. By making it possible to reduce the voltage of the components, the whole system is able to provide longer battery life.



The 2nd component of the Puma Platform is the AMD RS780M) mobile chipset which is partnered with the ATI HD3200 graphics. The HD3200 is the biggest improvement we have found on the Puma Platform and according to ATI the Radeon™ HD3200 Graphics is a DirectX® 10 capable integrated video graphics that introduces never before-seen detail-rich images and dynamic interactivity for playing the latest games. The Radeon HD 3200 graphics engine has been tested to provide rather decent 3DMark06 results that translates to playable casual gaming. According to LaptopMag.com, AMD promises “three times the 3D graphics performance of comparable competitor graphics” Notebookcheck goes further by stating that, "Compared to older onboad graphic chips (e.g., GMA X3100), the HD 3200 is much faster. As part of the DV5-series the display on this DV5-1002NR features the BrightView technology which makes everything on screen look better, crisper, and cleaner. Brightview LCDs use an optical coating to reduce the amount of external light reflecting from the surface without affecting light emanating from the screen. Brightview displays create more saturated colours, deeper blacks, brighter whites, and are sharper than traditional matte displays. This makes the BrightView display more appropriate for viewing photos, watching movies, or even just general computer usage such as web browsing. Audio is provided using Altec Lansing speakers known for excellent sound reproduction.

Cutting-edge design and the latest components combine to provide powerful entertainment in the HP Pavilion DV5 Entertainment Notebook. Finally A Touch media control that seemingly vanish behind the "liquid metal" surface when the computer is turned off, but light up when the notebook is turned is one of our favorite features. Aside from being aesthetically pleasing, from the touch sensitive controls you gain access to playback controls, volume level and the WiFi switch. The buttons glow a pleasing white, and the mute and Wi-Fi buttons turn orange when you cut the volume or Wi-Fi signal.



A multi-function DvD Player is capable of playing DvD and Cds as well as burning up to 4.5Gb data on a dual layer drive. The new HP Pavilion line allows you to remove the optical drive with a push of a button, to further lighten the notebook's weight up to half a pound.
